What are property labels and asset labels?
They are identification labels that are attached to physical property: desks, chairs, tables, computers, and printers. Some traditional reasons for using identification labels are:

What's the difference between a property label and an asset tag?
Nothing. Identification labels are called property labels in some organizations and called asset tags in other organizations. Typically, for-profit companies refer to them as asset tags while government and non-profit organizations call them property labels.

What is Anodized Aluminum?
Identification labels are often used in unfriendly environments such as warehouses, factories, or outdoors. Conditions such as these demand that labels be durable and resistant to solvents, abrasion, steam cleaning, and extreme weather. Anodized Aluminum is made specifically for these conditions by Lustre-Cal. Anodizing is the controlled oxidation of aluminum using an electro-chemical process to create a corrosion-resistant and porous surface that is nearly diamond hard. Colors can be dyed and then sealed into the porous surface. The result is an abrasion-resistant surface that will never peel, chip or flake-- regardless of age or weather. Lustre-Cal has developed a proprietary process for dying anodized aluminum, so the material used is guaranteed to be consistent in quality and color. No other manufacturer can provide our wide variety of base colors. Lustre-Cal's proprietary etching process permanently embeds text and graphics into the anodized and sealed aluminum surface. Not convinced? Request a sample of our side-by-side scratch test for proof that anodized-etched aluminum ID labels are superior.

What about color?
Each material is available in a standard pallette of colors. Please refer to the individual material pages for color swatches and important outdoor fade resistance information. If you do not see the color you are looking for, please contact us to find out more about our Pantone color matching.

Should I use serial numbers on my labels?
Serial numbers are important if you plan to track a specific asset for inventory control or maintenance history. Lustre-Cal provides labels with permanently die-stamped sequential numbering. The numbers are 1/8" or 3/8" high, and they are filled with black ink for easy reading. 3/8" anodized serial numbers are also available on aluminum tags only. You can choose labels with a blank pad so numbers can be written or typed.

What size should I use?
We have 3 common sizes that satisfy most needs, and 8 other sizes that will address the majority of users. Lustre-Cal also can produce custom labels in any size you need. Click here to view our standard label sizes.

How long will my order take?
Normal turnaround is 24 hours for anodized aluminum orders placed before noon PST. For all other materials, bar code labels or any orders exceeding 10 packs, turnaround is three days. For expedited service, call (800) IDLABEL (435-2235).
